The LapSnapper Lap Timing System is compatible with all types of Android devices, including tablets, mini-computers, TV boxes, and mobile phones. It supports Android version 5 or newer; however, Android 7 or later is recommended for optimal performance.

To function properly, the Android device must support USB 2.0/3.0, USB Type-C 2.0/3.x, or Micro USB with USB Host/OTG Mode. Most modern Android devices typically support USB Type-C 2.0/3.x.

For integration with the LapSnapper Client & Monitoring Software, third-party race management software, or printers, the Android device must support wired LAN or WiFi. Additionally, external speaker support is recommended for automated race commentary.

The development of Android tablets has progressed well recently, and the latest models work seamlessly with the LapSnapper. We currently recommend using the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ Android tablet along with a USB-C Docking Station for the best experience.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ offers reliable hardware and software, comes at a reasonable price, and will continue to receive software updates for years. With a USB-C Docking Station, the tablet can be charged while simultaneously using USB data, making it possible to power the LapSnapper Decoder without interruption. Additionally, the docking station allows for a wired LAN connection and provides extra USB ports for expanded functionality. These features make it possible to build an advanced lap timing system around the tablet at a reasonable cost.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ does not support screen mirroring via HDMI to a TV, whether using a USB-C docking station or not. This feature is typically available only on high-end tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 series. However, the Galaxy Tab A9+ does support wireless screen mirroring with Samsung TVs. While screen mirroring is a convenient and cost-effective solution, it may not be the most optimal method for sharing lap times around a racetrack. LapSnapper offers an optional software product called LapSnapper Client & Monitoring Software. This software enables the sharing of measured lap times to Android TVs or TVs connected to an Android TV Box via wired LAN or Wi-Fi. The Android TV or TV Boxes run the LapSnapper Client & Monitoring Software to display the lap times.
